From Scrap to Prototype: The OriginLabs Effect

What can you build from a pile of scrap materials in just six hours?

For four students participating in the Dare to Disrupt Design & Build Challenge, the answer was a fully realized, physical prototype of the Dare to Disrupt podcast logo — and a new set of hands-on skills to match.

Over the course of two three-hour sessions at OriginLabs, the students were introduced to industry-grade equipment they had never used before, including laser cutters and fabrication tools used in professional prototyping environments. With guidance from the skilled OriginLabs staff, they worked through the design and build process—cutting, assembling, and refining materials as they transformed their concept into a finished product.

This experience culminated in a final showcase, where their prototype was displayed in front of alumni entrepreneurs, campus leaders, and peers—highlighting not just the finished product, but the process and hard work behind it.

Experiences like this demonstrate how OriginLabs supports hands-on learning and prototyping by providing access to equipment, technical guidance, and a space to experiment.
